We arrived in Bermagui about 3pm Friday. The last time I visited the area I got a bush tick so I headed for the pharmacy so as to be prepared. After collecting the required cream I asked where one would get a good feed of fish and chips at that time of day and was told to head for the Fisherman’s Wharf 73-79 Lamont St Bermagui.
On the ground floor I located the Bluewave Fish and Chip Shop. I ordered a dozen Wapengo oysters, half a dozen sea scallops and 4 crumbed prawn cutlets with chips.
They were excellent and we were back for breakfast the next day for more of the prawns, scallops and chips. For Sunday lunch I had the idea of more of the same but the fish and chips sections had a long line of hungry people who had beaten us to the punch so we settled for oysters. The locals obviously know this shop very well.
We got our revenge, we were back on Monday morning for breakfast. The Bluewave serves the freshest seafood I’ve encountered in New South Wales and I say that as someone who haunts the Sydney Fish Market. I availed myself of the spotless toilets before heading back to Sydney.
