Politics in the Pub,
ah – there’s the rub
at Shorncliffe
sounds like a hillside
set to by a mad shearer.
And the pub was called
the Sea View-
not that you could see
the sea from it.
But it was in Pier Street-
which sounds like
an invitation for
voyeurism.
Not a very auspicious start
for making new friends.
But the lounge bar had
a magical quality.
The supporting structures
were invisible.
The posts were
strategically placed
for you to run into them
and Fiona was bubbling
with enthusiasm
and Paul was laid back
and people were addressing
local and national issues.
Learning what excites people
is what friendship is made of.
